Wow! It’s hard to believe that we are counting down the days until 2025. Looking back, 2024 has been a year of exciting changes at Black River United Way, filled with new programs, partnerships, and most of all PROGRESS!
Below are just a few highlights from the year:
In March, we launched The Basics in Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties with two local screenings of “No Small Matter”.
On March 21st, we held our 2nd Annual Power of the Purse Women’s Fundraising Luncheon, raising $7,410 to support Mission: Ready and Mission: Read.
42 students attended our Kindergarten Readiness Camp, KinderWaves.
32 students did not experience the summer learning slide, but instead maintained their learning through Summer SAIL.
824 elementary students received Be Ready! Disaster Training and Emergency Kits.
115 caregivers received Triple P - Positive Parenting Program training in 2023-2024.
Our AmeriCorps program concluded after nine successful years, providing a $2.68 MM impact and 76,000+ volunteer hours to Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties.
In September, we launched Heroes For Literacy, empowering community volunteers to support struggling Kindergarten -3rd grade readers.
Our inaugural Pickle For Progress Pickleball Tournament was a success with 113 players competing in 11 divisions and raising $17,250 towards our mission.
In October, we launched Learn & Play Dramatic Centers as a resource to support local child development centers in fostering early brain development.
In the Fall, BRUW facilitated Teacher Focus Groups in Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties to collect feedback from educators.
220 students were supported through literacy tutoring during the 2023-2024 school year, with 99% showing academic improvement in reading and 40% improving to reading on or above grade level.
These highlights, along with other accomplishments, good news, and updates from the past year can be found in our 2024 Annual Impact Report (see flipbook below). I hope you enjoy reading this report as much as our team enjoyed creating it!
During this season of reflection and gratitude, it’s a joy to look back on what we have accomplished together. Whether you were involved as a volunteer, gave back through a generous donation, or took action by partnering with us in some other way, thank you for the role you played in advancing Black River United Way’s mission in 2024. None of these accomplishments would have been possible if it were not for your support.
On behalf of our Board of Directors and the team at Black River United Way, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We look forward to working with you in the new year as we continue to make Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties a place where all may thrive.
United is the Way,
Yolanda McCray
