CALLING ALL HEROES!
Reading unlocks a world of possibilities for our children. However, in Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties, nearly two-thirds of children are reading below grade level by the end of the third grade (South Carolina Department of Education).

At Black River United Way, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to unlock the power of reading. Through our Heroes for Literacy program, we connect communities to local schools, helping children overcome early-grade reading struggles and tap into their potential.

What is Heroes for Literacy?
Heroes for Literacy (H4L) is an initiative where community members dedicate 1.5 hours each week to tutor children in reading. H4L is a volunteer experience open to individuals, companies, churches, and civic groups, that allows you to become an everyday hero in the literacy development of a child.
