Power of the Purse

Power of the Purse is Black River United Way’s signature women’s luncheon fundraiser supporting early childhood success. Featuring Special Keynote Speaker Dr. Katrina Hutchins and a Silent Purse Auction, Power of the Purse is a day for changemakers in our communities to unite and show what can be accomplished when we work together.

“Alone we can do so little; together, we can do so much” - Helen Keller

Did you know that less than half of students in Georgetown & Williamsburg Counties are currently reading at grade-level? Or that 88% of students who failed to earn a high school diploma were struggling readers in third grade?

Developing early literacy skills is crucial for future success. The Black River United Way has the bold goal to help get 90% of third-grade students served by our programming and strategies on or above grade level by 2031. But we can't do it alone!

Join us for our 2nd Annual Power of the Purse event on Thursday, March 21st at 11am at The Manor House at Wedgefield Plantation.

Tickets are $65 and all proceeds for this event will benefit BRUW's improving Childhood Success initiative through Mission: Ready and Mission: Read. These initiatives support children right here in Georgetown and Williamsburg County, with 98 cents of every dollar donated put to work in our community.

Together, we can improve literacy rates and ensure early childhood success in our community.
